What Sony has done has raised the bar and Canon and Nikon will have to meet that challenge if they want to stay in the game. There is a lot of 'trashing' of Nikon and Canon on these pages, and some of it well deserved, but don't let that color your objective buying decision. Now, instead of an RX100 on my belt, I have an iphone on my belt for grab shoots, and the Mk II in a Lowepro 30 case on my shoulder with enough room for the EVF for more serious photography. Given at least equal quality, the control features and a better EVF is what steered my to this Camera as I will not go back to an interchangeable lens (SLR or mirrorless) as they are too expensive and become worthless with dust and damage damage to their sensors. I tested the lens at 24mm at f2.0 and it is no worse than my RX100- it actually has less light fall off in the corners. The feature set is competitive with Sony and Fuji, at least on the MK II.

I have printed and bound the 200 plus page manual, and that really helps if one doesn't know how to set-up and utilize Canon features. I have been shooting the Canon Mk II since Thursday and I really like it. I am also trying like a Nikon P330, but I have nothing nice to say about it.

I have a Sony RX100 and an R1, two great cameras. THAT would be highly impressive, if I could only find sample photos to support that. My guess is that with an almost-APS-C sensor and f/2-4 (approx) aperture, it should be able to yield shallow DOF close to my DSLR with 85mm at f/2.8 (stopped down).

There are a few "previews" (as opposed to full reviews), and the smattering of "sample photos" do not show anything that an ordinary P&S couldn't accomplish. I was going to make a similar post, except instead of "hate" I would say "lack of information." Unless I am very much mistaken, this camera is already available in the USA and it is right on top of the list of "gear" I eventually hope to "acquire." However, there is just about zero really useful information as of yet. That is not to say that there are not some very valuable comments and commenters around. It was not like this once, but has been for some time.

It saddens me that they usually laugh at forums like this and their tendency to be full of highly combative brand-obsessed retired doctors and dentists.

I work in TV broadcasting, much of it arts and cultural, and work with many pro photographers, both journalistic and producers of coffee table books. It is selling like the proverbial hot cakes. You can find some of their posts from two or more years ago on this very forum.īelieve it or not, there is not as much hate in the real world as in forums like these. Others are angry because they predicted the G1 X would fail and that there would never EVER be a G1 X Mark II. some don't want to pay that cash, whatever the IQ (for anything less than a DSLR). If you think the IQ is worth the money you will likely be very happy with it. And I was not lamenting their impending demise even slightly.įor some people, the sticking point is the price. Salesmen pooh-poohing a camera they don't have in stock yet and attempting bait and switch for a quick sale is endemic in chain stores. It's not a coincidence that Jessops almost went bankrupt recently. please be gentle with me (this is my first post)! Hopefully I'll be able to contribute as time goes on.

Just felt like joining and participating in this community. Now I'm a novice so hoping to get to grips with it as soon as I can.Īnyways. but I'll be sure to drop some pics online and give my own impressions too. I've just ordered it online along with the EVF, Lens Hood & UV adapter. I probably should have waited some more to get more research done. they still said no! They've basically been echoing everything that's been said in online forums thus far! Which I found hilarious. I asked if any Canon reps had popped in to let them play around with it or anything. The staff basically blasted the camera and instead advised me to go for a Sony or Samsung which pretty much caught me off guard.! When I asked if they've got the G1 X Mark ii in stock anyways they said not yet. Cellphone camera's are still many many years away from being able to capture great pictures - that includes my Nexus 5 as well as our iPhone 5s) portability without the hassle of carrying lenses.Īfter failing to find any real in depth reviews online, I decided to hit my local Jessops.

I guess it makes more sense when traveling etc (and no. As I'm practically a virgin to the world of DSLR cameras (I was stubborn to get into it after the decline of analogue photography) I've instead opted for the point & shoot. I was looking to get into photography as a hobby and also to have a good camera to take better photos with. After scouring the intertubes for reviews and hands on impressions of the G1 X Mark ii it's pretty clear (thus far anyways) that this isn't going to be a camera loved by most.
